Infinitive Clauses

Infinitive clauses are groups of words containing an infinitive verb form (to + base form of the verb) and its accompanying words. These clauses can function as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs in a sentence, depending on their role in the sentence structure.

As Nouns:

1. Subject of the Sentence:

To learn a new language requires dedication and practice.

2. Object of the Verb:

She wants to travel to Europe next summer.

 

As Adjectives:

1. Modifier of Nouns:

This is the best book to read before starting your journey.

2. Modifier of Pronouns:

It is important for us to understand the instructions clearly.

 

As Adverbs:

1. Modifier of Verbs:

She worked hard to finish the project on time.

2. Modifier of Adjectives or Adverbs:

The weather was too cold to go outside.
