Imperative

Imperative in English is very easy to form. All you need to know is the infinitive form of the verb you want to use.

Examples of the verb's infinitive form are: go, do, make, take, learn, shake, etc.

The imperative mood is typically found in sentences where the subject "you" is understood but not explicitly stated.

Imperative is used to express:

- commands: close the window!

-requests: please, close the window!

-advice: close your eyes and relax!

Imperative can be positive and negative.

Positive Imperative:

It is created with the verb's infinitive form. For example:

Do it!

Look at that!

Cut the bread!

Read this chapter!

Eat it!

Negative Imperative:

It is created with the auxiliary verb do. Add not to it and contract it to don't. Then add the verb's infinitive form! For example:

Don't do it!

Don't look at it!

Don't cut the bread!

Don't read this chapter!

Don't eat it!
