  • Breaststroke - a type of swimming that involves moving both arms at the same time and kicking like a frog.

  • Turns (flip turns and open turns) - ways to change direction at the end of a swimming pool.
  • A lap - one full length of a swimming pool, which is usually measured in meters or yards.
  • A swim cap - a tight-fitting hat that swimmers wear to keep their hair out of their faces and reduce drag.
  • Goggles – eyewear worn by swimmers to protect their eyes and make it easier to see beneath.
  • Swim Meet - a swimming competition where swimmers compete in different races.
  • Stroke technique - the proper form and execution of swimming strokes to maximize speed and efficiency.
  • Turnaround - the point at which swimmers change direction during a race or practice.
  • A warm-up - a time of stretching and exercise before swimming to keep you from getting hurt and improve your performance.
  • Cool down - a short time of light exercise and stretching after swimming to help muscles heal and keep them from getting stiff.
  • Dive - going into the water head first from a platform or starting block.
